Intro
Every one of us has some habits, whether it is good or bad. Good habits definitely lead you to a happier and healthier life, and sometimes can even make you successful. But it is a very unpleasant experience when someone possesses bad habits. These habits can negatively affect your health. Not only that, but they can also cause some serious damage to your career and social relationships, ultimately ruining your life.
Most people think that bad habits only refer to drug or alcohol abuse, smoking, and eating junk food. But there are other habits as well which can be very detrimental to your health. In the following section, we will discuss some bad habits and their impacts on our health.
In this article, I am going to mention some dangerously bad habits and the effect of bad habits on health. I believe that it will help our readers to build a happier society.

Alcohol abuse
Drinking of too much alcohol is referred to as alcohol abuse. Alcoholic beverages contain recreational drug – ethanol. It is considered to be a neuro-depressant, which if taken in lower doses cause euphoria and reduces anxiety. Some alcoholic beverages are often used for curing cold, fever, and cough. But when someone intakes alcohol for a longer period their liver and kidney start to stop functioning. In addition, they can suffer from cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, gastrointestinal pathologies, mental illness, and so on.
Smoking
Smoking refers to the usage of any kind of tobacco product. This is one of the dangerously bad habits as it not only affects the person but also affects the people surrounding him. A UN survey shows that; people die every13 seconds only because of smoking. The nicotine of a cigarette directly enters the blood vessels through alveoli. The smoke contains many toxic substances, such as carbon monoxide, hydrocyanic acid, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon dioxide, essential oils, ammonia, and tobacco tar. Smoking reduces the amount of oxygen in the blood, and as a result, the brain gets less supply of blood. And Smoking causes cancer along with various severe diseases.
Smoking causes irritation in the mouth, larynx, nose, and damage to the trachea and bronchi. It causes respiratory diseases like asthma, pneumonia, and lung cancer. Since the nicotine hampers the blood circulatory system, smoking can lead to different types of cardiovascular diseases as well.
Narcotic substances
Pharmaceutical drugs are commonly known as narcotic substances. Most of the time teenagers use this kind of drug to entertain them. Such drugs have been classified into some groups like- opiates, psych stimulants, cannabinoids, hallucinogens, hypnotic sedatives, and volatile drugs. When these drugs are used frequently, it does not only put a negative impact on physical health, but it also has some other negative effect on mental health as well. In addition to causing damage to the nervous system, liver, heart, and lungs, this substance can also have a negative impact on the social and economic scenario.
Overeating
Overeating is another seriously important bad habit that has a catastrophic effect on our physical health. Most of us like to eat fast food like burgers, sandwiches, pasta, pizza, etc. All these foods contain cheese which has a very high level of fat and cholesterol. When we eat too much of added cholesterol, it deposits in our arteries. As a result, it gradually blocks the passage of blood supply leading to cardiac arrest or some other cardiovascular diseases.
Not only junk foods even when we overeat our regular food; our body cannot handle the load. We might suffer from indigestion. Another most important drawback of overeating is that it causes obesity. It ultimately leads to several cardiovascular diseases.
Wrong body posture
Most people might not consider this a bad habit, but it is a seriously bad habit. The majority of us do not stand straight or sit in a poor posture. A poor back posture for a long time can cause some serious damage to your spinal cord. If you have a tendency to lean forward while sitting or standing upright, you are risking of curving your vertebral column. This vertebral column supports your entire upper body to remain straight. When it starts curving, your upper body will no longer stand straight. This, in turn, will create uneasiness and pain in several parts of the body, such as neck, shoulder, back, waist, and hips. A bad posture can imbalance your entire body as well.
Stress
Stress is nothing but emotional and physical tension. It can be the result of any event or thought which causes frustration, angriness, or nervousness. When you are stressed, hormones like cortisol, catecholamine, vasopressin, gonadotropins, etc. are altered. The change in the release of these hormones can have a detrimental impact on our body and mind. It also affects mental health.
Chronic stress can increase your blood pressure and blood sugar. It can also cause indigestion along with lower immunity. Stress can increase your body weight. Some other problems can include the change in sleep pattern, lower drive for sex, irritation, and anger.
Sleep deprivation
Having the poor quality of sleep is another bad habit that most of us do not want to accept. Our physical and mental health are interdependent. If something happens to one, the other suffers the consequences as well. Depriving yourself of sleep can be very dangerous for your health. If you skip your resting periods constantly, you are definitely going to lose concentration and the muscles in your body will go fatigued.
Poor quality of sleep also makes your immune system weak. As a result, your body cannot fight pathogens, which further results in an increase in blood pressure. Sleep and stress have a close connection with each other. If you deprive yourself of sleep, you will be more prone to stress which can cause other physical and mental illnesses. Again sleep deprivation causes family unrest and also breaks family bondage. It destroys mental peace. Some researches show that sleep deprivation leads to suicide and it is one of the major causes of suicide.
Skipping breakfast
Many people have this habit of skipping their breakfast. And, they do not even think of it as a bad habit. Skipping breakfast means skipping the essential nutrients for your body which will keep you running throughout the day. When you are not having breakfast, you are slowing down your metabolism. This results in gaining weight and laziness. Not only can these, skipping breakfast negatively affect your hormonal health, memory, thinking capability, and mood. So having a proper breakfast is very necessary to boost you up for the day.
Painkillers and sedatives
When painkillers and sedatives are taken for a longer period than it is prescribed, it can cause more problems rather than solving them. Drugs like ibuprofen and aspirin can increase the risk for ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, high blood pressure, and heart attacks also. Drugs that calm down your nervous system or sleeping pills are more dangerous when taken in overdose and/or for long periods. This kind of drug soothes your senses for a certain time giving you a feeling of happiness. But long time use of these drugs can make you addicted and dependant. It is advised not to take medicine without consulting a physician. Taking wrong medicine can disturb your brain or causes psychological problems; even it could be a cause of immature death.
Not drinking enough water
According to health science, the human body is made up of 60% water. From this statement, we can understand the necessity of drinking water in our life. Not drinking sufficient amount of water can cause dehydration. When you are dehydrated, you become exhausted. In addition to this, your skin becomes dry, and it impacts your focus ability and productivity. It can also cause malfunctioning of your kidneys leading to the weak immune system. Not drinking enough water can let your body accumulate the toxic substances in your blood which is very harmful to your health.
Endings
These are some of the most dangerous bad habits that can negatively impact both your physical and mental health. But there are some other bad habits as well that can affect your health indirectly. Biting nails can cause skin infection and often carry germs into the mouth. Cracking knuckles releases synovial fluid that makes the joints movement easy. If you constantly keep cracking your knuckles, you will end up having a swollen hand and a weaker grip. Another one is to listen to music at a very loud volume, let it be over the headphone, or using a sound system. Loud noise can decrease the level of your hearing as you age. you as well as we need to be more conscious about the Effect of bad habits on health because health is wealth. When our health responds positively than our brain works in a proper way. Be sure to identify your bad habits and live your life in a blissful way.

People are not born with bad habits. They just develop these habits due to the influence of others or for the environment. Some even try to experiment with these things and later become addicted. It is not that easy to get rid of the bad habit you have. You need certain practice methods to get over your unpleasant habits. Habits like substance abuse which include alcohol, smoking, and drugs sometimes need the victims to go to a rehabilitation center.
